Dani Johnson lived in North Fond du Lac and attended Friendship Learning Center, where she completed the third grade in 2000. She was a very out-going little girl who was quite head-strong, independent, and always full of energy.Dani’s time on earth ended tragically in August 2000 at the age of nine. She was a passenger in a van that had slowed to a near stop due to construction on Hwy 41. The van was struck from behind by another vehicle at a high rate of speed.Dani enjoyed sports, and participated in softball and basketball. She liked being part of a team, competing, and winning. Individually, she took pride in being a fast runner and in climbing trees much too high for her mother’s comfort. Dani was a talented violinist, having participated in the Suzuki Talent Education Center at UW-Oshkosh for the three years prior to her death. She did more than just play music – she felt it.Dani was a member of Presentation Catholic Church. She was looking forward to the time when she would be old enough to serve for mass. Dani had a big smile and beautiful eyes. She was very close to her mother and brother. Each day would almost always end with Dani sitting on her mother’s lap – cuddling and rocking. Dani cared about other people. She was very thoughtful and considerate. At the time of her death, Dani donated her organs which have enabled two people to live longer, fuller, and healthier lives. One of Dani’s dreams was to play basketball for UW-Madison. She wanted to be a Badger. This scholarship was established in Dani’s memory by her mother, Cindy Champeau, to assist other students with pursuing their dreams.
